LECTURE AT THE INSTITUTE FINE ARTS
Workshop for Molding and Casting Techniques
ARTIST TALK WITH Uli Aigner - ONE MILLION
Event: June 9, 2022, 6pm
Location: Online via Zoom
Uli Aigner uses craft in the age of digitalization as a tool to investigate virtual and physical interaction. Since 2014, she has been pursuing the project of producing 1,000,000 wheel thrown porcelain vessels with her own hands until her life’s end. Each vessel is created in exchange with a patron as a commission and chronologically numbered and recorded as a data set on www.eine-million.com as well as marked on a digital world map at its location. In this production project, which is actually impossible due to the sheer quantity of 1 million, various social and political realities become visible. Uli Aigner creates a sustainable network of physical labor, craft knowledge, and communication in the age of the Internet. ONE MILLION Porcelain is the physical tip of a digital iceberg. In the course of the lecture series, Uli Aigner gives insight into her work and talks about spheres of artistic speculation.
Her visiting professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (2001-2003), set yet another focus in her work, resulting in a 5-year curatorship at Lothringer 13 – Gallery of Contemporary Art of the City of Munich. In 2011, Uli Aigner moved with her family to Berlin and since has been focused on her artistic work.
The lecture will be held in English.
